Frequently Asked Questions

What is our curriculum?

The foundation of our curriculum is based around the media arts: film, television, radio, podcasting, and the recording arts. The program is enriched by the core studies through the Wisconsin Virtual Schools.

When will students be able to enroll?

Is my student a good fit?

We enroll all students in grades 6-12. The UpGrade student is motivated to learn to be a leader and to share their voice through creative, culturally relevant projects. Students learn more than the media arts. They learn leadership, management, social justice, and more.

What will the school day look like?

In our hybrid model, students attend some courses live with their teacher peers. Other learning takes place asynchronous. There is also a combination of on-campus and distance learning days with some courses taking place on a predetermined day and time; while other courses are completed via a flexible schedule format.

How will students be assessed?

The Personalized Instructional Coaches (PICs) and Program Leads will oversee student grades. These are all fully licensed staff. UpGrade’s number one goal is for students to master the skills needed to be prepared for college or the workforce once they graduate. Students will also be assessed in their core classes through the Wisconsin Virtual Schools. We conduct standardized STAR and MAPS testing three times a year, as well as invite students to create media arts projects that interest them and showcase their skills and academic growth. Student voice and choice are present in all types of assessments.
